Be entertainedšŸŽby Community Theatre

Can you experience live theatre for less than $100 per couple? Yes you can, plus the acting is superb! Open to discover these two gems.

I love going to the theatre, and when I lived in Manhattan and Brooklyn I’d often go to see plays and musicals on Broadway. Now that we live at least 2 hours away from Broadway, I’ve discovered a love for Community Theatre, so this week we are spotlighting two theatres that are local to us.

SPACE COAST, FLORIDA

Melbourne Civic Theatre, Melbourne FL

Melbourne Civic Theatre has been putting on a variety of classic & new plays since 1951. We’ve been to four performances here so far, and they have all been spectacular. They cast local actors and have a strong supportive community.

Their latest, Move Over Mrs. Markham, is a delightful British play, full of witty conversation and comedic antics! See it this April but buy your tickets soon because it's sure to sell out! (Tickets are only $35 each.)

Ticket buying tip: If you like leg room, try booking tickets in the last row. There’s plenty of leg room. Or if that’s not available, book in the first row. You’ll feel like your part of the performance, which is very cool! When we had tickets in the first row, one of the characters ā€œdiedā€ right in front of us!

HUDSON VALLEY, NEW YORK

Bridge Street Theatre, Catskill NY

Are you interested in productions that are ā€œnew, neglected, and off-beatā€? Then Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill would be a great night out. They bring in talent from all across the United States, and the caliber of the acting is amazing. They have won numerous awards, including the Berkshire Theatre Critics Award.

Tickets are $30 online and $33 at the door. Their more popular productions do sell out, so don’t wait to buy your tickets at the door if you are interested in attending one of their performances.

Their next play is Polishing Shakespeare a comedy written in iambic pentameter, by Brian Dykstra. This will be only the second time the play has been produced, and it's headed for Off-Broadway in Manhattan later in 2025, so why not see it in Catskill instead?

Opening night is April 17th, so grab your tickets soon!
